Community Code of Conduct
Impact Hub Baltimore is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming coworking space for all. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion and strive to create a space where everyone feels respected and supported. To ensure that we maintain a positive and safe environment, we have established a code of conduct. We expect all individuals (members, paid or otherwise; program participants; employees; sponsors; funders and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct in our community venues—in-person and online:
- Respect Others - We expect people to treat each other with respect and kindness, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other personal characteristic. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
- Be Inclusive - We celebrate diversity and welcome all perspectives. We encourage everyone to engage in open and honest conversations, while also being mindful of their language and behavior. We do not tolerate any form of hate speech or language that is derogatory or offensive.
- Create a Safe Environment - We are committed to creating a safe and secure environment. We encourage individuals to look out for one another and to protect the community. We do not tolerate any form of physical violence, threats, or intimidation. We also expect our members to respect the property of others and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Be Professional - We expect individuals to act professionally, and to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values of our organization. This includes being respectful of others' space, and adhering to our policies and procedures.
- Report Concerns - We take all concerns and complaints seriously, and encourage our members to report any behavior that is harmful, unsafe, or violates our code of conduct. If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify an IHB staff person as soon as possible. We will investigate all reports thoroughly and will take appropriate action to address any issues.
Unacceptable behaviors within our community include, but are not limited to:
- Inappropriate or hostile usage of the provided resources and services
- Violence, threats of violence or violent language, or intimidation
- Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes, personal insults, or harmful language
- Posting or displaying illegal, harassing, sexually explicit, or violent material
- Non-consensual physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention, including sexualized comments or jokes, inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcome sexual advances
- Conducting business or activities that cause any harm, risk, or liability to Impact Hub members or the general public
Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If an individual engages in unacceptable behavior, IHB leadership may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a temporary suspension or permanent termination from the community coworking space. If a person believes that they have been falsely accused of violating this Community Code of Conduct, they should notify IHB leadership with a description of the grievance. The grievance will be reviewed and addressed in a timely manner.
The Common Ground
Here at Impact Hub Baltimore, we are all working together in a shared space. With shared workspace comes shared responsibilities, so abiding by the following norms allows our community to maintain social fluency, safety, and productivity:
- Respect - Members come from a diversity of backgrounds and cultures. It is essential that we all work together to maintain a welcoming, supportive, and safe space for all. We should consider how our words and actions may affect others, while having a healthy curiosity and respect for different cultures and lifestyles. Members should take care to ensure everyone has what they need to flourish in the space.
- Cleanliness - Members must maintain any private area and all common areas in a neat, clean, and sanitary condition. We strive to leave the space in a better state than how we found it. There are friendly reminders and guiding principles in each space as reminders, and your assistance with this is greatly appreciated!
- Timeliness - We live in a busy world with meetings to take and problems to solve. Be cognizant of the time and acknowledge that your fellow members need to use the amenities and meeting rooms as well.
- Trust - People here are watching out for you, so watch out for them as well. The members of this community support you and your work and are eager to do so. Take care to remind yourself of their support and ensure that they know the same of you.
- Joy - Take a deep breath. You’re surrounded by a community of people that believe in working to improve things and they're willing to invest their energy, time, and even more into it. We aim to celebrate each other at every chance we can!
Membership Term and Fees
Impact Hub Baltimore is a membership organization. Upon activation, every member is entered into Cobot and has autonomy to change, upgrade, downgrade, or cancel their membership.
- If you want to edit or cancel your membership, you must make this change in Cobot by the 15th day of the month in order for it to take effect for the following month’s invoice. Instructions on how to make changes to your membership in Cobot, please see the IHB member handbook.
- All payments for membership fees and rent payments, if any, shall be made through Cobot, unless arranged and approved otherwise.
- Membership payments are automatically processed through Cobot on the first of every month. Your first month’s payment is due at the time of beginning your membership, at the prorated amount.
- Memberships in delinquency past three months are subject to cancellation.
Guests
All guests must check-in with the Community Coordinator on duty and must comply with the Member Terms and Conditions. You are responsible for ensuring your guests’ compliance and safety. Non-members are not allowed to access the Impact Hub Baltimore premises without continuous accompaniment by a member. Members working with youth must have the proper written policies, procedures, insurances, and certifications in order to address permission, ensure safety, and avoid liability for all parties.
Our “Rule of Two” helps us ensure that our cost of membership remain low and our resources are used by those who pay for them:
- Guests are permitted to stay for up to two full hours. Past two hours, all guests are encouraged to purchase a Day Pass, available for $15 on the Impact Hub Baltimore website.
- Each guest is welcome to be in the space up to two times that same month. If they are here more than twice in a month, recommend that they become a member!
- If you bring more than two guests, we encourage you to book a huddle room so that your group’s work does not distract other members.
Resource Rooms
Your membership includes a set number of hours in the larger Conference Room and the three smaller Huddle Rooms. Members are able to edit, update, and cancel any of their bookings up to 24 hours beforehand. If a change or cancellation is necessary, please call the Hub or email hello.baltimore@impacthub.net before the start of your booking. Rooms that are reserved yet unoccupied for over fifteen minutes may be counted as a no-show, which will result in the member’s booking credits for that reservation being forfeited. Due to the unpredictable demand of the Resource Rooms, a booking that is deemed a no-show can be cancelled by an IHB Staff member in order to make it available for another individual.
The Phone Booth is not able to be reserved through Cobot and has a two-hour time limit per person per day. Reserve the times you need by writing your name on the door window. Please respect timeliness here and refrain from having more than four people inside at one time. This room also functions as the Lactation Space, so please use this space equitably if someone is in need of privacy in order to pump.
Events
Events in the space are regular and typically occur in one of the large Open Spaces. Please refer to the Member Mainline or the weekly calendar whiteboard for information on what is going on in the space. If an event is not open to the public, a Community Coordinator or the event host may ask any coworking individuals or groups to move their operations to another room. Because of our space layout and as a 24/7 coworking space, we are cognizant and intentional of noise, material/resource usage, and security of our space. All event hosts are required to complete a walkthrough with someone from the IHB team so that they are oriented to the amenities and norms of the space. Any member who is interested in using one of the Open Spaces to host an event should complete the online booking form.
Indemnification and Termination
By agreeing to these terms, you agree to defend and hold Impact Hub and its respective agents harmless from and against any damage, loss, penalty, judgment, fine, cost, expense or fee (including reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred in connection therewith) arising from or in connection with any claim, action and/or judgment for damages to property or injury to persons suffered or alleged to be suffered on the premises by any person, entity or corporation, unless such property damage or personal injury was caused by Impact Hub’s gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Impact Hub reserves the right to refuse, or terminate memberships immediately and at any time for any reason, provided that membership dues already paid by the member at the time of such termination with respect to any portion of the membership period occurring after the date of such termination will be refunded to the member. Impact Hub is not obligated to renew any membership. The cost for membership benefits, perk, and rates are subject to change at any time at the sole discretion of Impact Hub. Impact Hub cannot be held liable for not delivering membership services due to unforeseen external events, including but not limited to weather events, political unrest, natural disasters, public health emergencies, external disruption of access or functionality of our space. As a member, you acknowledge the potential risks of entering a shared workspace and accept that Impact Hub Baltimore is not liable in the case of a health issue or outbreak in our community.
Your membership is contingent upon your compliance (and your guests’ compliance) with the Impact Hub Baltimore Membership Terms and Conditions, as well as all future updates of these agreements (collectively the “Terms and Conditions”) as provided by Impact Hub. By becoming an Impact Hub member and agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, it does not create a lease or other interest in real property in your favor, but merely creates a temporary license to use the Impact Hub space, revocable by Impact Hub pursuant to the Terms and Conditions. You agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions, and understand that a violation of the Terms and Conditions may result in a termination of your membership.
Impact Hub reserves the right to update the Terms and Conditions as needed, and each member shall refer to the most recent version of the Impact Hub Baltimore Membership Terms and Conditions as posted on the Impact Hub Baltimore website.
So there it is. Your tenure at Impact Hub has begun. You are now following the footsteps of great people and we think there are great things coming for you as well. We are here to support you in any way we are capable, so please don’t hesitate to check in with the Membership & Space Manager.
